1. World's Largest Hand (Lui Hua - China)

Lui Hua suffers from a rare condition known as macrodactyly. When he was hospitalized in Shanghai on July 2007, his left thumb measured 10.2 inches and his index finger measured close to 12. On July 20 surgeons undertook a seven-hour operation to reduce the size of Liu's fingers and thumb. Doctors removed 11 pounds of flesh and bone in the procedure. A second surgery is scheduled to take place. Enlarged limbs can be caused by a number of medical conditions. Lymphedema is perhaps the most common cause and results in some extraordinarily enlarged limbs.

2. 13-inch Tailed Man (Chandre Oram - India)

With a 13-inch tail, Chandre Oram, a tea-estate worker, has become quite an object of devotion in his native Alipurduar, West Bengal and believes that Hanuman is manifest in him. "I was born on Ram Navami (birthday of Lord Ram). People have a lot of faith in me - they get cured of severe ailments when they touch my tail. I believe I can do a lot of good to those who come to me with devotion," says the man, before whom thousands of people queue up each day to seek blessings. In a corner of the courtyard of his home, Oram has set up a small Hanuman temple, where he receives offerings on Ram Navami, which he later offers to the deity.

NOTE: video suggested by our reader Luke, thank you!

However, because of the tail, Oram has found it difficult to get a bride. "Almost 20 women have turned down marriage proposals. They see me and agree to a match. But as soon as I turn around, they see my tail and leave. But I have decided I will marry the woman who accepts me and my tail. Or else, I'll remain a bachelor like Hanuman," he said.

Oram's family is proud of his tail and has turned down offers from doctors for its removal by surgery. "He will not survive without his tail. It has become part of his being, his existence," said Rekha, his sister. Doctors say that true tails are rare. But they are located in the coccygeal end of the vertebral column whereas Oram's tail shoots out from the lumbar region. "The coccyx is a vestige in humans and we stopped growing tails from that region a long time ago when we evolved from monkeys. Oram's case seems an aberration, an offshoot of a congenital defect," said eminent surgeon Dr B Ramana. The medical community reads the monkey man's case as a spina bifida -- a defect in the bone of the spine covered by a hole with lots of hair covering it.

3. Cyclop Baby (unidentified baby - India)

On 2006, this baby was born with a only one eye in India. Medical staff who helped deliver the child believe that the child's condition was caused by an experimental anti-cancer drug. Another cause written in the report by the hospital was that it could also be the result of a chromosomal disorder. The child was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal disorder, known as cyclopia. She was born with a single eye in the center of her forehead, no nose and her brain fused into a single hemisphere. With such severe deformities, it was a miracle that the girl survived even a few minutes after delivery. The baby died days later.

4. Frog-like Baby (unidentified baby - Nepal)

On 2006, this bizarre-looking baby was born in Charikot, the headquarters of Dolakha district, attracting a huge number of onlookers to witness the astonishing sight.

The neck-less baby with its head almost totally sunk into the upper part of the body and with extraordinarily large eyeballs literally popping out of the eye-sockets, was born to Nir Bahadur Karki and Suntali Karki at the Gaurishnkar Hospital in Charikot. The Karki couple is a permanent resident of Dolakha's Bhirkot VDC.

The bizarre baby, however, died after half an hour of its birth, Suntali, the mother, informed. It was taken to the hospital after its death. The news about such a baby being brought to the hospital spread like wildfire and there were hundreds gathered at the hospital to have a look. The police had to be deployed to control the crowd.

The baby weighed 2kg at birth and was born after the normal nine-month gestation period. Suntali, already a mother of two normal daughters, was not suffering from any illness during the pregnancy. Nir Bahadur, the father, says he does not feel any remorse for the newly-born baby's death. "I am happy that nothing happened to my wife," he said.

NOTE: Our readers, Becca and Andrew, report us that "the baby has a condition called anencephaly, a neural tube defect (like the cyclops baby), with no proper brain formation. The baby would have died a few days later. That's why women are advised to take folate in early pregnancy." --Thank you!

5. Feet facing backwards (Wang Fang - China)

Wang Fang, 27, of Chongqing city in China, was born with her feet facing the wrong way. She has learned to live with her condition without problems and recently refused a disability pension by being classified as disabled. "I can run faster than most of my friends and have a regular job as a waitress in the family restaurant. There is no reason to class me as disabled."

6. Baby with Three Arms (Liu Junjie - China)

This 2-month-old baby named Liu Junjie from Anhui Province, China, was born with a third arm on 2006. Doctors successfully removed the extremely rare and well-developed third arm, but the baby required long-term physical therapy to gain function in his remaining hand, which has no palm and flexes in either direction. "We're hoping to exchange information with doctors who've dealt with similar cases anywhere in the world," said Chen, head of the orthopedics department at Shanghai Children's Medical Center. "This is so rare that we have virtually no information to go on."

7. Nipple on the foot (unidentified 22-year-old woman - Brazil)

The bizarre paper describing the case reads: "A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair. Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands. Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot."

Some of you people are just fucked up.

Guest | 8 Feb 2010 - 01:03
Fact that lot of these cases ar mostly from Asia can easisly be a result of more factors. (Excluding any of those that religious fundamentalist could think of )
First, there is number of people that actualy live in Asia, second question is a level of powerty, medical help, and education. That leads to poor living condition, and poor care for prebirth health of child. In the western countries, where malformities at birth are not less often, fetal deformations are mostly detected before birth and people are adviced to stop pregnancy. If not, cultural level mostlyprevent them to go trough cities and show poor babys on the streets. Obwiously that doesnt stop peple to laugh to such, a terryble human misfortune.
Type in google human deformities and syndroms and im sure youll find enough sad or inspiring storyes of fight and surviival on all parts of world.

Arguing weather God exist or not, in the cases above does not hold any water to me. Although some people believe it is a hoax, if it is then it is time people who are responsible for such a joke to be brought to order, why, because it is anethical to mutilate a human image into a froglike looking creature and the likes, think of what this hoax will change the minds of other people, e.g. people who are planning or have been trying to have a baby, they will have a second thought thinking that their offsprings will be as deformed as the images above or even worse. On the other hand, if this is true then we have to belive it, but how, report such extreme ceses through BBC, Skay News, CNN and the likes and educate people more about it because in some cultures it may be believed to be a curse of some sort.

Saushini | 27 Jun 2009 - 00:29
There are so many things that happens in this world from which we can sometimes collectively concure with each other regarding the existance/non-existance of God, but human deformity is definitely not one of them, people are different, some have a big/small nose, some have extra sized breasts and so on, and these differences are caused by inheritance while the deformality are caused by mainly mutation: a suden change is the genetic formation whch is a result of many environmental factors including climate ans pollution. If we follow the source carefully it leads to us humans who are not responsible enought to take care of the environment so that in return it protect us too...If God is there, he can't be held responsible for these deformities, if most of these cases are Asian, then it does not take a profesor to deduce the fact that this conditions are environmental/climate related. Some people can link it so Hiroshima and so on...sad

Saushini | 26 Jun 2009 - 23:36
Its a shame to the society for people to be making fun out of conditions from aboveangry, it is a clear indication of what human are turning to become due to mutation caused by evnviromental pollution which human beings themselves are answerable to, especially in Asiacrying.

Jessica, Yo. | 17 Jun 2009 - 09:43
It's actually not surprising that all but one defect are originated in Asia, "Anaymous." Asia accounts for more than 60% of the world's population. I would be surprised if a majority of the defects were in more developed/less populated countries. Plus, those countries have higher rates of pollution, which would of course lead to higher rates of birth defects. It's common sense.

76 | 11 Jun 2009 - 03:10
If nothing else these cases prove the expansive capability that we possess within our genetic code.

In fact it is believed that early humans had polymazi or supernumary breasts and may have given birth to more than 2 children at a time. Supernumary breasts are actually more common in men. If you do not believe that a species can change over time then the above is your proof especially if the genetic deformity is passed on or is beneficial as in the case of the woman with backwards feet "I can run faster than most of my friends".

Perhaps, maybe I will regret it. But it's also a possibility that you've wasted your entire life believing in a non-existent God.
Also, for any future insults, it would help if you could actually spellatheist. Just a note.

Thanks Sally! smile
It's nice to know that my ranting wasn't completelypointless! wink
xxxxxxx

Sally | 5 Mar 2008 - 03:20
I agree with Britt and red.
Arguments about religion just end up being blown up so much and all in all we can't prove either way.
Believe what you want to believe and let others think what they want, thats the way the world should work because else we'd all be like sheep. No-one would think of anything new if we all just believed what others told us and don't think for ourselves.

red | 5 Mar 2008 - 01:06
Yes, I do get your general point, and in some ways I agree. I do think that people are dumb if they just follow religion like sheep, and I respect people more if they come to their own conclusions rather than just follow the religion that they're told to.I got very annoyed when my "friends" said that "you'll go to hell, Christ will punish you, I hope you rot..." and so on (fortunately they're not my friends anymore!) simply because I didn't believe. I just didn't find it fair for people (not you in particular) to instantly assume that they were dumb- but if this were the other way round, and they were saying that we atheists are stupid, by heck would I be defending our side!
Anyway, that's just my two cents smile

d | 4 Mar 2008 - 23:47
im not saying the people are dumb im just saying it is a bit dumb to belive him. we have our different reasons and im sure people that belive god can understand why we dont. anyway its not the people themselves that are dumb but others its dumb to belive. get my piont ?

red | 4 Mar 2008 - 22:41
d: My apologies, perhaps I should have explained myself better...
How long have humans been fighting over religion? People have died for religion, and wars have been fought in the name of it for centuries.
Now I know what your next argument could be, something along the lines of war being stupid, and there is no evidence that God exists, etc.
However, the point I am trying to make is that these people believe in their God so much that they are willing to die for him. And no matter how much one rants and raves about the pointless-ness of religion, nothing anyone can say will change their minds. Suffice to say, the argument will certainly never be concluded on an internet forum!
Personally, I don't believe, I am an atheist. But the reason I'm sticking up for these people is because sometimes I wish I could believe. Religion can help people get through the darkest times. I don't see anything wrong with hoping.
Furthermore, all of you who say that "religious people are stupid" obviously haven't read anything that requires more brain cells than "The Magic Key" stories. Einstein believed in Spinoza's God, Newton was Christian, Shakespeare a Catholic; these being some of the greatest minds in history.

d | 2 Mar 2008 - 23:34
YOU WHATwassatifThere is no evidence to prove that he DOES existthen thats proof that he does not.

red | 2 Mar 2008 - 18:03
I agree with Britt here. Since when did this become an argument over whether God exists? There is no evidence to prove that he DOES exist, but neither is there to prove that he does not. I find it sad that some people are immediately judging others because of their beliefs. How would you like it if I judged you because you had brown hair? *Gets off soap box* End of rant :P

"firstly these were all made by god so anyone who doesnt believe just frig off because he made this world and if you read the paragraphs these people are fine"

Several of them died because of the defects?
The point of this article has nothing to do with "where they came from"?

In a recent study it was shown that 90% of religious people have an IQ that is measurably below average. (For you slow people that means an IQ below 100) I think that "hater" and "hfgdnhdv" back up this data nicely =)

i like pie | 1 Mar 2008 - 22:38
Yay Britt! You are so right. smile

Britt | 1 Mar 2008 - 20:50
I think some of these are funny as hell.
Though I think most everyone knows about people being born with a tail, which was kinda lame on this list.

And, on another note, do you guys really think to solve the whole God/anti-God thing in a comment section of an article?

Maybe everyone should gain some brain cells. Instead of shoving yours personal beliefs down others' throats, beleive what you beleive, have others beleive what they believe and leave it at that.
No matter what you say to someone of opposing beliefs, or how you say it, or how much you say it, their opinion is not going to change and neither is yours. It will just end up in destructive anger and will have blown the issue out of proportion.

So shut up and just friggin enjoy the artice.
Damn.

All made lovingly by God??? Are you Fecking serious? #1, If god does in fact exist and loved these people, he certainly would not make them live their lives as hideous freaks who have to miss out on much of life's pleasures and privileges. #2, there is absolutely no purpose for an over-sized hand or a nipple on your foot. That lame excuse "a purpose for everything" is just mans pathetic attempt to cope with the brutal and often senseless nature of life. Finally, If anything, these poor abominations disprove the existence of God, and instead prove that man has tinkered too much with the fabric of his own reality through avenues such as chemical and nuclear warfare or genetic engineering

well said...
